Family Nurse Practitioner

Provide primary care directly to inmates that included health assessment, recording patients' medical histories, symptoms, and performing physical exams, management of chronic medical health. Patients included those locked in mental health isolation and open milieu, inmates who are in locked segregation and unable to present in clinic, aggressive toward all persons. Use of multiple de-escalation techniques and developing a therapeutic relationship and trust with high at risk and distrusting population. Weening opiates after surgery in patients with history of polypharmacy and illicit drug abuse history. Identifying emergency need and coordinating transfer of patient to hospital. Cultural competence and treatment consistent with patient culture and high LGBTQ+ population

Nurse Practitioner - Infirmary

Provide primary care coverage admitted to skilled nursing care, physical rehab and long term care facilities. Managing their chronic and acute conditions during their length of stay. Educate patients and care providers regarding patient care, length of stay, progress, medical concerns, advancing of chronic conditions and assisting families when it is time to consider comfort care and hospice. • Provide and manage comfort care, collaborate with hospice care providers to provide optimal comfort and care to patients who have reach the stage where they are transitioning from this life.

Nurse Practitioner 

Provide primary care directly to patients on appointment and walk in basis to include health assessment, recording patients' medical histories, symptoms, performing physical exams, and creating patient care plans. 
• Ordering, administering diagnostic tests and treatments and observe patients' functioning over time 
• Identifying if emergency care is needed and initiating Emergency Medical Services when necessary and coordinating transfer of patient to hospital. 
• Cultural competence and treatment consistent with patient culture and practices, including LGBTQ+ awareness and inclusion in health plan. 
• Detecting changes in patients' health and modifying treatment plans, as needed. 
• Training patients and their families to manage and prevent illness and injury. 
• Creating strategies to improve or manage a patient's health

During the years following 9/11 I participated with my Navy Reserve Medical Unit. This included overseeing the daily operations the clinic with a mission to ensure medically readiness of Marines and Sailors to deploy and then process them after returning from deployment. Additionally, I would lead education to large groups of general military personnel regarding various health issues that they might encounter during deployment, including training non-healthcare providers in advanced first aid, emergency triage and evacuation.
