Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner

Provided primary psychiatric-mental health nursing care for 22-bed inpatient psychiatry unit, with a myriad of mental health disorders. Performed admission, transfers, and discharges of patients as well as reviewed and implemented physician orders including seclusion and restraints. Engaged patients and families in health education and medication management. Documented patient care, assessments including observation of patient’s behavior, procedures, and test results. Collaborated with a disciplinary team to determine treatment planning. Administered injectable psychotropic medications as well as oral drugs and monitored for adverse reactions of medications. Facilitated emotional support and adhered to state regulations and policies. Utilized knowledge in electroconvulsive therapy (ECT) and assisted by monitoring patient in ECT suite. Additional duties included crisis interventions, responding to violent situations and using de-escalation techniques to manage behaviors.
